Bandurak wins for second time
John Bandurak, assistant professional at Bloxwich Golf Club took overall first prize of over £500 in near perfect weather and with the course in great condition, scores were very keen.
This was John’s second successive win in the event, this time with a different brother, Mark (12), also from Bloxwich GC. They had to fight for the title, a morning round of 74 left them eight shots off the lead after the first round score by Gary Martin and his amateur Glyn Martin (12) both from Silkstone GC. whose score of 66 - 6 was best of the day. Two shots further back on 68 were Ryder Cup player, David Gilford, Greenway Hall GC and his partner, former European Seniors Tour player, Steve Wild, Trentham GC now playing as an amateur off 4 handicap.
The Bandurak's afternoon round of 69 (-3) was sufficient for John and his brother to take 1st prize with a total of 143 (-1). 2nd overall were Julian Dodsworth, Stratford on Avon GC and amateur James Cumberland (4) from Little Aston GC with rounds of 71.5 and 72, just .5 of a shot behind. The best round in the afternoon was by Adam Moran from Druids Heath GC and his amateur, Phil Murphy (3) Handsworth GC with a score of 68.5 . Another local assistant professional, Daniel Whitby-Smith with his amateur Gary Moore (9) both at Whittington Heath GC were 3rd overall after rounds of 69.5 and 74.5. Just half a shot shot further back on 144, level par.
Twenty six pairs played in the event, an increase from twenty pairs last year as the event continues to grow in popularity.
